How many times do we run into a situation at work where we look at it as a management team and immediately look to develop a policy to prevent it from happening again? It happens all the time. We see it in our world regularly, and you can see that there were good intentions however, it is not necessary. It isn’t necessary to make a policy every time something goes wrong in the office or someone’s conduct or behaviour is not as we would expect. Sure, there are situations that indicate that we need a policy, however for many, it would be better dealt with by confronting the individuals involved, setting expectations going forward, consequences and a timeframe for improvement.
Be careful you don’t catch this syndrome….it is all too present and can make your employee handbook look like a good plot for a comedy routine. 🙂
